Standish, Myles
( 1584, Lancashire, Inglaterra–3 oct. 1656, Duxbury, Mass.).

Colono anglonorteamericano. Combatió en los Países Bajos, donde conoció a los Peregrinos, con quienes se embarcó más tarde en el Mayflower (1620). Como jefe militar de la colonia de Plymouth, condujo diversas expediciones contra las tribus indias hostiles. Ocupó el cargo de vicegobernador y tesorero de la colonia (1644–49). No hay evidencia histórica de que pidiera a John Alden que ofreciera matrimonio a Priscilla Mullins en su nombre, según el mito que figura en el poema The Courtship of Miles Standish [El galanteo de Miles Standish] (1858) escrito por Henry W. Longfellow.
